Songs of My Journey - Africa 2005

Hi Guys

As I continue the songs of my Journey it take me to 2005 when I was privileged enough to work with the Lions in Zimbabwe at Antelope Park. I have always and still am very passionate about big cats - its a subject I can talk at length about and tell you some very interesting facts. I have always been fascinated by Lions for their grace, social life and finely tuned hunting skills. I seized the opportunity to volunteer on a program to rehabilitate captive bread lions into the wild. Some of the lions I worked with in 2005 are now part of the Ngamo Pride (link below)

During my time in Zimbabwe I learnt alot about wildlife, lions and also about myself. My big lesson in life which is a very simple one was if you want to eat you must grow it or shoot it. At the time Zimbabwe was in the grips of inflation and the Zimbabwean Dollar still in use making basic commodities unreachable. I was working on a game reserve with no access to shops but we ate well. The second lesson I learnt was I can live without TV with no TV any where to be seen it soon fell of my radar. I learnt not to trust the media as I saw and heard many things that when they were portrayed in the media became somewhat disjointed.

I made new friends and lived a life to extremes - the highs were high and the lows were low - I pushed myself mentally to the limit and physically as hard as I could determined to soak in as much as I could from the opportunity presented.. Life is about experiences not possessions and this is something i carry with me and live by. So by the end of my time in Zimbabwe it was no doubt in my mind that I had began a lifelong love affair with Africa..

The first song is Lost Prophets - Last Summer - it reminds me of camp fires, travelling across Zimbabwe and new friends

The second song is 1 Giant Leap - Braided Hair - The feeling of been far in the African wilds and having 1 Giant Leap on my walkman or creative zen as it was then is unbeatable simply stunning and perfect...
